Geometry Dash Review

Like most rhythm games, it's very shallow. The input isn't all that complex either (unlike other games such as osu!, Friday Night Funkin', and specifically Rhythm Heaven), you simply press a single key according to the music. Sometimes, you'll need to read out the environment and memorize the map layout, since you aren't directly told when to press, making this an interesting blend between a platformer and a rhythm game.

Regardless of its simplicity, it seems to be intensely addicting. Retries are automatic and so short that it's easy to convince yourself to try again, and losses are completely sudden and unsatisfying; they rarely involve a lesson (beyond you "knowing not to jump there" and you keep doing it anyway). Hence, you'll endlessly be going through the "one more try" pattern, especially considering that the map layout remains exactly the same and all you have to do is improve your high record, constantly. There do exist some really fun (sometimes even mind-boggling) maps made by one of the most thriving communities on the internet, but the game itself is pretty meh, overall. D-tier.
